HITTING THE TARGET – But Not the Bullseye:
The editors at The NY Times have the right idea in their opposition of the President’s recent federal court appointments.
The nominations of Bill Pryor and Claude Allen are nothing short of irresponsible on the President’s part, and demonstrate once and for all, his lack of compassion for gays and lesbians. It is shameful and immoral. The Times is correct in calling for reasoned, moral senators to speak out against these nominations.
This, however, is where The Times misses the bullseye:
Mr. Pryor and Mr. Allen are only the latest examples of the enemies of gay rights whom conservative ideologues in the Bush White House are trying to impose on the courts.
What starts out sounding like support for queers, is nothing more than a veil for taking a jab at conservatives. In Raines’s world, this figures.
